Summate.it is a web tool that allows you to quickly summarize any web article using OpenAI. It is an experimental project by FiveFilters.org, a website that offers various tools for web content extraction and analysis. In this blog post, I will explain how Summate.it works and what are its benefits and limitations.
Summate.it is very simple to use. You just need to enter the URL of any web article you want to summarize and click on the "Summarize" button. Alternatively, you can add "summate.it/" before the URL of any web article in your browser's address bar and press enter. For example, if you want to summarize this article from The Guardian, you can type "summate. it /https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/apr/02/china-population-drops-first-time-decades" and hit enter.
Summate. it will then use Full-Text RSS, another tool by FiveFilters.org, to extract the full text of the article from the web page. Full-Text RSS is a service that converts web pages into clean and readable RSS feeds. It removes all the clutter and ads from web pages and returns only the main content.
After extracting the full text of the article, Summate. will use OpenAI, a powerful artificial intelligence platform, to generate a summary of the article. OpenAI is a research organization that aims to create and promote friendly artificial intelligence that can benefit humanity. It offers various APIs for natural language processing, computer vision, and other domains.
OpenAI uses a deep neural network model called GPT-3 to generate natural language texts based on a given input. GPT-3 is one of the most advanced language models in the world, capable of producing coherent and diverse texts on almost any topic. Summate. it uses the OpenAI API to access GPT-3 and request a summary of the extracted article text.
The summary generated by OpenAI has then displayed on Summate. its a website, along with the original article title, URL, and source. You can also see some examples of summaries generated by Summate. it for different web articles on its homepage.
